From October 13th 2006
This October sees an exhibition of new paintings by Northern based artist Neil Shawcross (RUA) open at the Fenton Gallery.
Returning again and again to the still life and the figure throughout his career, Shawcross’s exhibition at the Fenton Gallery will concentrate solely on the latter with a new group of dynamic figurative paintings.
These figures are imbued with the vitality and simplicity which has always been central to Shawcross’s work. They exude spontaneity, a sense of dance and movement. Once again, the colour red dominates Shawcross’s palate with the figures demarcated by thick black outlines. Sweeping, fluid paint show Shawcross’s masterful use of line, where movement and form are captured in a few assured brushstrokes.
Neil Shawcross was born in England in 1940 and trained at Bolton College of Art and Lancaster College of Art. He has exhibited nationally and internationally in London, Hong Kong, U.S.A and throughout Ireland. He has been the winner of a number of prestigious awards and is five-time recipient of Royal Ulster Academy Gold Medal. His work is represented in many private and corporate collections, including the Ulster Museum, Ulster Television, AIB, Aer Rianta and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
