Colin Martin: Colin Martin - 'A Minor Place'

Colin Martin’s practice draws upon genre, location and lens-based narrative to create a staged familiar reality. ‘A Minor Place’ involves a sequence of paintings set on a campsite and provides an exposition for a narrative that has yet to unfold.

Martin is also influenced by the genre of ‘Americana’ as it applies to music, film and painting and its themes of community culture and tradition. His work also references the architect Robert Venturi’s use of the leisure vernacular to question the value system of modernism, to create what he termed the ‘non-hierarchical space’.
